Job Description

The Iowa Division of Banking is seeking candidates for a Bank Examiner Internship.

The Iowa Division of Banking is a state agency charged with the supervision and regulation of state-chartered commercial banks in Iowa. The bank examiner internship position provides a great opportunity for an individual to participate in bank examinations designed to assess a financial institution’s overall financial condition and compliance with laws and regulations. Interns will be exposed to multiple banks and different areas of bank operations, giving them an opportunity to learn about what types of work appeals to them. The job includes traveling to banks in Iowa in addition to telecommuting. The Iowa Division of Banking is committed to providing its employees with internal and external training opportunities to stay abreast of changes in regulations and the current challenges facing the banking industry.

Qualifications Required:

  • Completion of sophomore year at an accredited four-year college or university with a major field of study in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, business education, or another business- related field
  • Team oriented with strong analytical and communication skills
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
  • Minimum of 6 hours of accounting by the time of internship
  • Valid driver’s license (travel required)
  • The internship does not require the participant to obtain course credit

Work assignments are performed under the direction and review of the Regional Manager, their designee, a designated examiner-in-charge, or the central office. Work products submitted will be technically correct and require no significant changes.

Hourly wage:  $20 (up to 40 hours/week)
